Special Showing of Bones and Crows
The Penticton Indian Band, Ooknakane Friendship Centre, South Okanagan Similkameen Metis Association and the City of Penticton
Special showing of Bones and Crows will be held at 325 Power Street at the Cleland Theatre at 3 p.m. The film by Métis writer, director and producer Marie Clements, follows Cree matriarch Aline Spears through her life, including her experiences at residential school and the lasting, inter-generational impact it had on her family.
Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30. The film features many members of the Penticton Indian Band.
Truth and Reconciliation Event at Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society
The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society is hosting a public event that’s aimed at raising awareness across the community.
“It’s about being curious about what you don’t know and asking those questions," said Carol Archie of the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society. The centre at 442 Leon Ave will be hosting on Sept. 30 children's activities, elders storytelling and a feast featuring bison bannock dogs.
The public is invited between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Day takes place on Saturday September 30th, 2023. The Shuswap Band News is organizing a walk to the Columbia Valley Centre in honour of the children who survived the Residential Schools and to remember those who did not. The Secwepemc Honour Song will be sung upon arrival ( bring your drums). Shortly after there will be a film screening of “Bones of Crows.”
This event will create a meaningful opportunity for our communities to come together and learn more about the tragic history of residential schools and the ongoing intergenerational trauma that is fundamental to reconciliation.
Please wear orange if you have it! This event is open to all who wish to attend!

Pow Wow Between the Lakes to premiere at the South Okanagan Events Centre this June!
The Four Seasons Cultural Society is excited to announce that the return of the Pow Wow Between the Lakes in 2023 will be held at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) in SnPink’tn (Penticton), BC. The theme of the event, planned for June 23-25, is Healing the Nation and is intended to bring together the eight bands of the Okanagan Nation Alliance in celebration of Syilx culture and resilience.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This event is produced by Rebellious Unicorns in partnership with Ella Lamoureux and Rez Daddy.

Join the Okanagan Nation alliance for a 5 km Walk for Reconciliation on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation! They will be departing from the Penticton Peach and making their way along the channel to the SIRS Monument outside the Penticton Hatchery on En’owkin Trail.
There will be a shuttle available at the Penticton Hatchery at 9:30 am to shuttle you to the Peach for those who want to participate on the walk!

Salmon Feast
It is one of the goals of the Syilx Okanagan Nation to carry on the work of the people’s ancestors and Elders who taught the importance of preserving and revitalizing the traditions, customs, and language of the Syilx people. The Salmon Feast honours the sacredness of the river at sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ (Okanagan Falls), which is a culturally significant site for the Syilx Okanagan People, and an important traditional fishing camp, gathering place and trading site. The Salmon Feast is a three-day event that involves multiple activities including: ceremonies, a canoe paddle, and on Sunday a salmon feast and ceremony for snx̌aʔiwləm (to honour the sacredness of the river).
