South Thompson Valley
The South Thompson Valley is a semi-arid region featuring pristine grasslands, hoodoos, lakes, and rivers. Bordered by the inland temperate rainforest to the north-east and the Canadian Cascade Mountain range to the west, you won’t find a region quite like this anywhere else. The cities here are built around the river and are located right next to their very own ski mountains, Harper Mountain and Sun Peaks. Sun Peaks is a resort community and a year-round destination for guests in search of a welcoming mountain experience. The European-style pedestrian village features locally-owned and operated shops, restaurants and lodging.
Along with the South Thompson River, the North Thompson River, and the Fraser River intersect in this region and flow into hundreds of trout-filled lakes. Due to its unique climate, summers are hot here and winters are cold and snowy, creating outdoor recreational activities year-round from hiking, mountain biking, and golf to skiing and cross country skiing. Kamloops also has its very own wine trail that features some wonderful varietals unique to the area.
